- On 16 October 2026, Yokohama City signed a sponsorship contract with LIXIL Renewal for the advanced-technology exhibits in its Tsunagu Yokohama Pavilion. The city announced it on 30 October.
- LIXIL Renewal will lend its PV roller screen and install it inside the pavilion. The screen has a built-in solar power function: it generates power around the window while controlling sunlight.
- The city says the exhibit will show how one system can both generate power from sunlight and make the room more comfortable, as an option for producing and saving energy in existing buildings.
- The pavilion is the city’s exhibit in the West GX Village area of the venue and has two zones, a Lifestyle Zone and a Future Zone.
- According to LIXIL’s April 2025 release, the product can be added to the room side of a window without electrical work and can charge devices over USB. LIXIL Renewal, a wholly owned LIXIL subsidiary, started taking orders from public facilities and businesses in the Kanto region.
- Which windows, how many screens and which zone are not stated.
- Note: Tsunagu Yokohama Pavilion and West GX Village are trip-jp’s renderings of the Japanese names.
Our take
Counting the city’s own press list, this is the 29th sponsorship of the city pavilion since Tokyo Gas on 21 July, and the fourth in October after Obayashi on the 20th, Takenaka on the 26th and JGC Holdings on the 27th.
It is also the second exhibit that generates power at a window. YKK AP’s sponsorship on 13 August was an inner window with perovskite solar cells, in other words a second, power-generating window added inside the existing one. LIXIL’s approach leaves the window alone and lets a screen that rolls up and down produce the power. LIXIL designed it for buildings that already exist, where fitting solar cells into the walls or windows is difficult.
The other difference is how it is shown. YKK AP’s sponsorship was a loan of exhibits, while this release speaks of installing the screen in the pavilion. We read that as the screen being fitted to the pavilion’s own windows and used, rather than placed on a stand as a sample.
Tips for visitors
- The location of the city pavilion and its two zones are in our report on the 29 September announcements.
- The October sponsorships from Takenaka and JGC are in our 27 October report, and the sponsors announced up to 28 September are listed in this report.
Our take
By the city's own press list, this is the 29th sponsorship of the city pavilion since Tokyo Gas on 21 July. It is the second exhibit that generates power at a window, after YKK AP's solar inner window in August; this time the power comes from a screen pulled down inside the window, not from the glass.
