Sakata Seed details five Expo exhibits: a garden of 160 flower varieties, the Flower of the Future and a seed pavilion

• Sakata Seed Corporation, based in Yokohama, published details on 15 September 2026 of the five exhibits its group will present as a flower and green exhibitor at GREEN×EXPO 2027, together with a key visual.
• The garden Hyakka Sairan (outdoor): beds in blues recalling Yokohama’s sky and sea, seasonal flowers around a central object, a modern Japanese-style bed and a potager mixing vegetables, herbs and flowers. Planting centres on about 160 flower varieties and about 20 vegetable varieties bred by the company, replanted by season.
• The object Mirai no Hana, the Flower of the Future: a sculpture at the centre of the garden of a flower that does not yet exist, in deep indigo for sky and sea and yellow-green for new growth. The pattern on its petals draws on kintsugi, the gold-seam repair of ceramics, to suggest cultures and skills overlapping.
• The pavilion Travelling Seeds and Me (outdoor exhibit): seeds to see, hear, touch and smell. Real seeds on display, a film of about three minutes on what grows from a single seed, and a corner where visitors try the work of a seed company. The outside walls are covered in plant illustrations.
• Indoor exhibit, short term, May: Hill of Happiness, Farm Table: campanula as the main flower, a flower hill set beside a dining table.
• Indoor exhibit, short term, July: Tree of Flowers and Dreams, Flowering Path: trees and lisianthus in many colours and forms.
• Sakata Green Service garden, An Ideal Life Merging with Nature (outdoor): a garden along a biotope stream that shifts from bright perennials and annuals to a natural planting of native species.
• Key visual: an illustration of the exhibition concept announced in July 2026, “Sow the seeds that move the world”: from a seedling’s first leaves to plants, daily life, society and the future. The company’s Expo site has been rebuilt with staff stories and will add a list of plants to be shown.
• Not stated: where each exhibit stands in the venue, whether the pavilion needs a reservation, and the exact dates of the May and July indoor shows.

Our take

A seed company founded in Yokohama, exhibiting five times at its home Expo. Until now we only knew the categories: outdoor and short-term indoor for Sakata Seed, outdoor for its landscaping subsidiary. Now the shape is clear: two outdoor exhibits (the garden and the pavilion), two short indoor shows (May and July) and one more garden from the group company.

The number that stands out is the garden’s 160 or so flower varieties and 20 vegetable varieties, most of them bred by the company. We expect a garden you can walk through reading name tags, looking for the flowers you have grown at home.

The indoor shows come in two separate runs because the indoor exhibition hall HANAMEGURI rotates its short-term exhibitors every nine days (our report on HANAMEGURI, published the same day). Campanula in May and lisianthus in July are different flowers, so a single visit catches only one. The outdoor garden is replanted by season too. This is an exhibitor that rewards more than one visit.

Locations inside the venue are not given. Once the outdoor exhibits are mapped, a walking route can be planned.

Tips for visitors

• The indoor shows differ by month: campanula in May, lisianthus in July. Exact dates will appear on the company’s Expo site (Japanese).
• The Hyakka Sairan garden is replanted by season. If you want both spring and summer, read how to think about the season pass before choosing a ticket.
