- The Yokohama City Tourism Association (organiser), working with the City of Yokohama’s Nigiwai Sports and Culture Bureau (co-organiser), is launching the website EXPO Mikke! at 10:00 on 19 September 2026 (Saturday), half a year before GREEN×EXPO 2027 opens.
- The site gathers events held by businesses, communities and groups across Yokohama that take an action “linked to the planet’s future,” and lets visitors search by category and area. Qualifying actions listed include litter-picking before or after an event, reusing collected materials, environmentally minded event operation, activities that support local produce, activities tied to history, culture, art or tradition, education for children and students, and other efforts related to the SDGs.
- Official Instagram and X accounts (both @expomikke) launch alongside the site.
- A launch follow campaign, “EXPO Mikke! Nice to Meet You Campaign,” runs from 18 September to 12 October 2026. Entry is following and liking the official Instagram account, or following and reposting from the official X account. Prizes, awarded by lottery, are pair ride tickets for the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel at Yokohama Cosmo World (10 pairs, 20 winners), UNI COFFEE ROASTERY drip-bag box sets (20 winners), and Blue Cacao CACAO CUTE sets (20 winners).
- From launch, the bureau opens applications for businesses and groups that want their events listed, through a form on the site. Eligible events are held within Yokohama and aim to draw visitors broadly; events aimed directly at promoting sales are not eligible.
- Five briefing sessions for prospective applicants explain the site’s purpose, listing criteria and how to apply: 19:00 on 14 October at Kanagawa Koukaidou; 18:00 on 22 October at the Citizen Collaboration Promotion Center in Yokohama City Hall; 14:00 on 23 October at Midori Koukaidou and Isogo Koukaidou; and 19:00 on 30 October at Totsuka Koukaidou and Hodogaya Koukaidou. All require advance booking, and each is also held online.
- The announcement does not give the number of events that will be listed, details of how the site works, or an application deadline.
- “EXPO Mikke!” and “Nigiwai Sports and Culture Bureau” are trip-jp’s own English renderings; the bureau publishes no official English names. “Koukaidou” (public hall) is kept as the Japanese venue name.
Our take
The Expo’s own announcements so far have covered events inside the venue (see the first list of events during the run). EXPO Mikke! covers the outside: events across Yokohama. The announcement describes its reach as running “from the city centre and waterfront to the suburbs and each area’s shopping streets,” which points to a goal of pulling visitors out into Yokohama’s 18 wards rather than keeping them at the venue. If a visitor can find something worth a stop near where they are staying, or on the way back to the station, that changes how a day gets planned.
The listing criteria are narrow: events need an action tied to the environment, local produce, history and culture, or education for children, among others, and events built mainly to sell things do not qualify. That should keep the list from turning into a plain roundup of sales and bazaars. What is missing, for now, is any sense of scale. No event count, and no example events, have been published yet.

Our take
The Yokohama City Tourism Association (our rendering of the Japanese name) and the city are launching EXPO Mikke! at 10:00 on 19 September, a site collecting events across Yokohama. Listed events must take an action linked to the planet's future, such as environmental work or local produce. The launch follow campaign runs through 12 October.
