- The GREEN×EXPO Association and Triathlon Japan, a public interest incorporated association, signed a comprehensive partnership agreement on 30 June 2026. It was announced on 11 September and runs until 31 December 2027. Both sides describe the GREEN×EXPO 2027 theme, “Scenery of the Future for Happiness,” as the idea they share.
- The agreement covers five areas: a sustainable society and natural environment, events, raising awareness among the next generation, publicity and building momentum, and adding value to each other’s work.
- Two concrete activities are named.
- Social media environmental action: athletes and team staff post about their own environmental efforts on social media, to reach fans and people in the sport.
- Booths at race venues: GREEN×EXPO 2027 booths will be set up at triathlon race venues and elsewhere, showing promotional videos.
- Triathlon Japan’s own release puts the World Triathlon Championship Series Yokohama and the World Triathlon Para Series Yokohama, held in Yokohama every May, first among the places for promotion. It describes the event as drawing top athletes from Japan and abroad and more than 300,000 spectators.
- Neither release says at which races, or when, the booths will appear.
Our take
Signed on 30 June, announced on 11 September: two and a half months. The Association has been releasing news steadily since the 200-days-to-go mark on 31 August, and this agreement was slotted into that run. The five areas of cooperation are written in general terms; only two things are concrete, the athletes’ social media posts and the booths at race venues.
The Yokohama race is what touches visitors. It is held in the city every May and, according to Triathlon Japan, draws more than 300,000 spectators. May 2027 falls in the second month of the Expo, so race-goers may go on to the venue and Expo visitors may go to watch the race. A booth at the Yokohama race would be the natural choice, but neither side says which races or when.
The agreement runs to 31 December 2027, three months past the closing on 26 September, so it covers wrap-up activity after the Expo as well.
Tips for visitors
- The 2027 Yokohama race dates are not yet out. Once they are, you can put the race and your Expo entry slot in the same week; slots can be changed up to three times (see timed-entry details).
- If you are in Yokohama in May, the Yamashita Park pop-up store is open until 31 May, in the same harbour area.
- From the harbour area to the venue: Yokohama Station, then the Sotetsu Line to Mitsukyo or Seya. Details are in the access guide.

Our take
The Yokohama race is held every May, so the 2027 edition falls in the middle of the Expo. Watching the race and then heading to the venue could make a day out, but what will happen at the race has not been announced.
