Participation commitments reach 74 countries and 5 international organisations as Colombia, Nauru and Libya join

• According to the Association’s list dated 9 September 2026, 74 countries and 5 international organisations have announced participation. The list includes only those ready to be made public, so the actual number of commitments may be higher.
• Compared with the list dated 4 August (71 countries), three countries were added: the Republic of Colombia, the Republic of Nauru and the State of Libya. No countries were removed.
• The five international organisations are unchanged: the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations University (UNU), UN-Habitat and the World Food Programme (WFP).
• The Association says it has continued inviting countries and international organisations since the exposition was registered as an A1-class international horticultural exposition at the BIE General Assembly in November 2022. It also says participation commitments from abroad have “reached the target of around 70.”
• By region, Africa accounts for the largest share with around 30 countries, followed by Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Latin America and the Middle East. Among the G7, the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy have announced participation.

Our take

Around 30 of the 74 countries are African, about four in ten. Among the G7, the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy have announced participation; Germany, France and Canada are not on the list, and whether they have declined or simply are not yet ready to be named is unknown. The Association lists only those ready to be made public, so the true number may be higher.

Participation comes in stages: an announcement, the signing of an official participation contract, then the exhibit plan. As of September the Association had announced signings with the United Kingdom, Italy, the Philippines, Luxembourg, India, Thailand and the United States, and our country guides follow that order. The rest come country by country once an embassy or the Association says more.

“Reached the target of around 70” draws a line under the invitation phase. Six months to opening. From here, expect fewer announcements about how many countries and more about what each will show.
