Gold coin shows Myaku-Myaku passing the baton to Tunku Tunku: 260 pieces at 659,780 yen

Our take

About 7.77 g of pure gold for 659,780 yen including tax, or roughly 85,000 yen per gram. That is a little more per gram than the Tunku Tunku koban and medal at Yokohama Takashimaya, and it is the only one of them with Myaku-Myaku. Delivery is planned from late February 2027, before the Expo opens.

  • On 28 September 2026, Imperial Enterprise Co., Ltd. (I・E・I) began selling the “EXPO 2025 → EXPO 2027 Myaku-Myaku & Tunku Tunku Baton Touch Gold Coin” through its own mail-order store, the I・E・I Original Shop. It is official licensed merchandise of both Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai and GREEN×EXPO 2027. The English product name is our translation.
  • The coloured side shows Myaku-Myaku holding a baton in front of the Grand Ring, and Tunku Tunku stretching out both arms inside a relief of flowers and plants. The other side carries a portrait of King Charles III.
  • It is .9999 gold, 1/4 ounce (about 7.77 g), about 33 mm across, with a proof finish. It is issued by the Government of the Cook Islands with a face value of 50 Cook Islands dollars and struck by the Mayer Mint in Germany. 260 pieces are issued.
  • The price is 659,780 yen including tax (599,800 yen before tax), plus 770 yen shipping. In 30 instalments it costs 26,180 yen a month. Delivery is planned from late February 2027, with a certificate of issue, a card and a display case bearing both Expos’ logos.

Our take

This is the third precious-metal souvenir with Tunku Tunku announced in September. The others are the 1,000 yen silver coin issued by Japan’s Ministry of Finance, and the pure gold koban and medal at a Yokohama Takashimaya gold fair.

Two things separate them: price per gram and when they reach you. This coin weighs about 7.77 g and costs 659,780 yen, which works out at about 85,000 yen per gram. The Takashimaya koban came to about 78,000 yen per gram and the medal about 82,000 yen, so among the pure gold licensed items this one is a little dearer. The silver coin is in another range altogether, 31.1 g of silver for 33,500 yen, and ships from around late March, after the Expo opens. The gold coin is due from late February, so it can be in your hands before opening day on 19 March.

The design is the other difference. Of the three, only this coin includes Myaku-Myaku. We think it is aimed at people who collected Expo 2025 goods and want something that marks the move to the next Expo.

Tips for visitors

  • Orders are taken on the I・E・I Original Shop product page or by free call on 0120-247-417 (every day, 6 am to 9 pm). Both are in Japanese.
  • Payment is by credit card or by deferred payment at a Japan Post Bank counter. The shop’s rules exclude cash on delivery for orders over 500,000 yen and convenience store payment over 300,000 yen, so neither works for this coin.
  • To see gold Tunku Tunku items in person in Yokohama, the koban and medal are on show at the Yokohama Gold Fair on the 8th floor of Yokohama Takashimaya from 30 September to 5 October.
