Japan's farm ministry recruits restaurants as GREEN×EXPO 2027 supporters, with a special-menu fair around January 2027

Our take

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will list restaurants that back the Expo on a dedicated website. What visitors get is that list, plus special menus at a fair around January 2027. How many shops will join, and where the website will be, have not been announced.

What was announced

Source: Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, "GREEN TABLE Campaign with restaurants ahead of the opening of GREEN×EXPO 2027" (18 September 2026, Japanese) Source: Same announcement on PR TIMES (24 September 2026, Japanese)

  • On 18 September 2026, marking six months to the opening, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) began recruiting restaurants for its GREEN TABLE Campaign. It sent the same announcement out on PR TIMES on 24 September.
  • Eligible restaurants serve dishes made with Japanese-grown vegetables, fruit or edible flowers. Shops that help promote the Expo, for example by putting up a GREEN×EXPO 2027 poster, become “GREEN×EXPO 2027 supporter shops” and will be introduced on a MAFF website and elsewhere.
  • Around January 2027, as one of the pre-opening events, MAFF will hold a GREEN TABLE Fair. It will ask supporter shops to create special Expo-themed dishes, and will promote the selected dishes as GREEN×EXPO 2027 collaboration menus.
  • Applications go through a form run under a MAFF contract. The deadline for the fair is 16:00 on 8 October 2026 (Thursday); for supporter shops it is 16:00 on 30 November (Monday).
  • The announcement gives no target number of shops, no website address, and no dates or regions for the fair.
  • “GREEN TABLE Campaign” and “GREEN TABLE Fair” are MAFF’s own names. “Supporter shops” and “collaboration menus” are our translations.

Our take

Edible flowers are on the list of qualifying ingredients, and that says something about who is running this. The campaign sits with the ministry’s floriculture office, the part of MAFF that looks after flower growing. It links a horticultural expo to eating as well as looking, and it does so outside the venue, in ordinary restaurants.

The two deadlines tell you the order of things. Shops for the fair must apply by 8 October, while supporter shops can keep signing up until the end of November. For visitors, the first thing that can actually be used is probably the fair around January, about two months before opening. Until MAFF says how many shops have joined, and whether they cluster around Yokohama or are spread across Japan, it is hard to say how useful the list will be. We will report again when the website goes live.

Tips for visitors

  • Wait for MAFF’s supporter-shop website. No address had been given when the campaign was announced.
  • If you run a restaurant in Japan, the fair deadline is 16:00 on 8 October 2026 and the supporter-shop deadline is 16:00 on 30 November. The form is linked from MAFF’s announcement page (Japanese).
