MACNICA Green Tech Messe gets two exhibit zones, and Macnica plans self-driving electric buses on the Expo site

Our take

The exhibits themselves are still unannounced. The concrete news is the self-driving electric bus: the Expo area is about 80 hectares, so its route, stops and fare will shape how people get around the site.

What was announced

  • On 16 September 2026 Macnica, a technology trading company based in Yokohama, released an outline of MACNICA Green Tech Messe, its facility at GREEN×EXPO 2027. Macnica is a Platinum Partner and announced its sponsorship of the facility in June.
  • Two zones: a permanent exhibit zone and a zone for temporary exhibitions. Macnica runs the permanent one.
  • The theme translates roughly as making green fun through technology. Macnica describes hands-on exhibits built around advanced technologies gathered from around the world and the future they could grow into, using sight, touch and the other senses.
  • Self-driving electric buses: Macnica also plans to run self-driving electric buses as a way for visitors to move around the site. The Association named Senyo Kogyo and Macnica as on-site mobility operators on 19 March 2026, but did not say what kind of vehicle Macnica would provide.
  • Macnica has opened a special page. On 16 September it said only “Coming soon”, with more to follow as details are decided.
  • Not stated: what the exhibits will be, whether they need a reservation, and the buses’ route, stops, fare and hours.

Our take

The clearest news here is the bus, not the exhibits. In the Association’s releases of March and June, Macnica appeared only as a name on the list of on-site mobility operators. This is the first time we have learned that it means self-driving electric buses.

The Expo area is about 80 hectares. Visitors arriving by shuttle bus from Seya or Mitsukyo station still have to cover that ground on foot or by an on-site vehicle once they are through the gate. For people with pushchairs or wheelchairs, and older visitors who tire on long walks, we think where this bus goes matters more than what is on show.

On the exhibits, the Association’s event list of 15 September adds a little. It says the same facility, about 600 square metres, will host events run by government ministries, starting in March and April with one on greenery, cities and technology (provisional title) that runs until 12 June. Neither release says whether Macnica’s temporary exhibition zone is where those events take place.

When the bus route or fare is announced, we will cover it.

  • Visiting in March or April? The ministries’ greenery, cities and technology event is planned for this facility. Events in other months are listed in the first event list.
