Our take

LET'S EXPO, which pushed wheelchairs and walked with visitors at Expo 2025, has been recognised by the Good Design Award. It plans to help people get round the GREEN×EXPO 2027 site too, but how to apply and what it costs are not yet out.

What was announced

  • LET’S EXPO, run by the Kansai Innovation Center (MUIC Kansai), Tokyo Travel Partners and Sumitomo Electric Industries, was named in the 2026 Good Design Best 100 and also received a special prize, the Good Focus Award for new business design. The organisers and kenma, the firm that designed its name, logo and website, each announced this on 15 October 2026.
  • Founded in 2023, LET’S EXPO ran on-site mobility support at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai (pushing wheelchairs and walking with visually impaired visitors) as well as live-streamed online tours. It says it supported more than 150,000 participations in total.
  • The jury praised its attention not only to people who want to go but cannot, but also to family members and carers who want to invite them but don’t, and its choice not to treat going to the site as the only way to take part.
  • The organisers plan to provide on-site mobility support at GREEN×EXPO 2027, which opens on 19 March 2027, together with the Nippon Foundation Volunteer Center and Tsukui. It is aimed at people who find it hard to get round the site alone because of physical or visual impairments.
  • How to apply for support at the Yokohama Expo, what it costs and when bookings open are not in either announcement.

Our take

LET’S EXPO’s role at the Yokohama Expo was already settled: it announced its sponsorship on 28 July 2026 and began recruiting about 2,000 volunteers (see the Yokohama Expo for Expo 2025 visitors). What is new is the award and the jury’s view; the details of the support offered in Yokohama have not grown since July, beyond naming the Nippon Foundation Volunteer Center and Tsukui as partners.

At Expo 2025, 2,500 volunteers took part in running it over the whole event; for Yokohama about 2,000 are being recruited. One is a cumulative total and the other a recruitment target, so they cannot be compared directly.

What matters for readers is that the people doing the inviting do not yet have enough to decide on. The jury praised a design that makes it easy for a relative to say “let’s go together”. Whether that works the same way in Yokohama can only be judged once the booking method and price are out.

Tips for visitors

  • If you want mobility support at the Yokohama Expo, watch the LET’S EXPO website (lets-expo.jp) for booking details. As of 16 October 2026 there are none.
  • The Expo’s accessibility guidelines are covered in our accessibility piece, and lifts and toilets at the four shuttle-bus stations in visiting with a stroller or wheelchair.
