Ginza "EXPO Sakaba" talks: next sessions on 20 November and 18 December

Our take

This is run by a flower-industry association, not by the Expo Association, though Ryuichi Wakisaka of the Association spoke at the third session. For Expo history, the 18 December session with Professor Tomoyuki Okada of Kansai University is the one to pick.

  • The third session took place on Saturday 24 October 2026 at ROSE GALLERY Ginza, in Ginza 8-chome, Tokyo. It was organised by the Flower Life Promotion Council, a general incorporated association. “EXPO Sakaba” (roughly “Expo Bar”) is our rendering of the event’s Japanese name.
  • Ryuichi Wakisaka of the Japan Association for the 2027 International Horticultural Expo introduced the highlights of GREEN×EXPO 2027, including its gardens and exhibits and participation from all 47 prefectures and from abroad.
  • Tomoyuki Okada of Kansai University spoke about the history of modern world expos and how Japanese horticulture connects with them.
  • Masashi Fujiwara of Hakusan, which handles the PROVEN WINNERS plant brand, talked about breeding work, including heat-tolerant varieties, and said the company hopes to use its exhibit at GREEN×EXPO 2027 to spread interest in gardening.
  • Session four is on Friday 20 November from 18:30, with a talk on gut flora and health by Kazuhiko Hayashi of Kagurazaka Nyugyo and a yoghurt tasting.
  • Session five is on Friday 18 December from 18:30. Okada will trace expo history, including the Paris expositions, and how Japanese horticulture became known abroad.
  • The venue and fee for sessions four and five are not given in the announcement. Both are booked through Peatix.

Our take

When we covered the second session in September, we said this was not a place to hear new information about the Expo site. The third session changed that: Ryuichi Wakisaka of the Association presented the gardens, exhibits and participants. It is still the council’s event, not an Association briefing, so check official details against the Association’s own announcements.

The next two sessions go in very different directions. Session four is about gut health and yoghurt and has little to do with the Expo. Session five has Okada, who studies expos as media events, as the main speaker, linking the history of Japanese horticulture at world expos to the flower culture that may follow the Yokohama Expo. If you can pick only one, we would choose 18 December.

The timing has changed too. The second session started at 15:00 on a Saturday; sessions four and five both start at 18:30 on a Friday, after work.

Tips for visitors
