Our take

The winter skating rink at Yamashita Park opens from 5 December 2026 to 28 February 2027. Entry is free; the rink costs 1,200 yen for adults. It closes 19 days before the Expo opens, and this year adds flowers and light to the usual music and skating.

What was announced

  • The YMC Winter Yamashita Park Event Executive Committee announced on 14 October 2026 that Winter Wonder Park Yokohama 2026-27 will run from 5 December 2026 (Saturday) to 28 February 2027 (Sunday).
  • It is held around the festival plaza (Omatsuri Hiroba) of Yamashita Park. Entry is free. The skating rink costs 1,200 yen for adults (high school age and up), 1,000 yen for children aged 3 to junior high, and 2,000 yen for a parent-and-child set. Children under 3 cannot use the rink.
  • This year’s theme is “BLOOMING! Winter in Motion”. With GREEN×EXPO 2027 coming next spring, flower and light displays are added to the rink with music.
  • There will also be DJ events, seasonal food and hot drinks, and a park train, the Winter Wonder Express. Details are to follow.
  • Opening hours and session lengths for the rink are not in the release.

Our take

The only link to the Expo here is the flower theme. The GREEN×EXPO Association is not among the organisers, and the release mentions no Expo tickets or information at the venue. I read it as Yokohama itself dressing the city in flowers in the winter before the Expo, rather than an official Expo event.

The dates matter for planning. The rink closes on 28 February and the Expo opens on 19 March, so you cannot do both in one trip. The event is also part of THE YOKOHAMA ILLUMINATION, a campaign linking the city’s winter light displays.

The organising committee includes the Yamashita Park street association, Motomachi and Chinatown, alongside the city. That suggests a day built around skating followed by dinner in Chinatown or Motomachi.

Tips for visitors

  • The Hikawa Maru is moored in front of Yamashita Park, three minutes on foot from Exit 4 of Motomachi-Chukagai Station on the Minatomirai Line, so the park is easy to reach by train.
  • Rink prices are 1,200 yen (adult), 1,000 yen (child) and 2,000 yen (parent-and-child set). Hours will be posted on the official site.
  • The Expo runs from 19 March to 26 September 2027 and does not overlap with this event. For the spring trip, see our access guide to the venue.
