- On 17 September 2026 Kanagawa Prefecture announced that the national selection final of the high-school flower-arranging battle (Hana-ike Battle) will be held inside the GREEN×EXPO 2027 site. The prefecture organises it, the GREEN×EXPO association co-hosts, and Aeon Retail and Aeon Mall sponsor it.
- The date is Friday 30 April 2027. The start time is still being set, and where on the site it will take place was not given.
- Fifteen schools will compete. Each team is made up of students from the same high school.
- The contest gives teams prepared flower material and five minutes to arrange it.
- Schools are selected from those entering the regional rounds of the nationwide 2026 competition.
- The Kanagawa round is planned for Sunday 15 November 2026. All 15 schools should be known by around February 2027.
- Whether the public can watch, and whether that needs a booking, is not in the announcement.
- “Hana-ike Battle” is trip-jp’s own English rendering of 花いけバトル.
Our take
The run lasts 192 days, from 19 March to 26 September 2027, and so far very few events have a date attached. Our first event list showed most of them pinned only to a month. This one landed on a single day, 30 April, exactly six weeks after the opening, because the regional rounds start in November and the schedule can be counted backwards from there.
That Friday sits inside Japan’s busiest travel week. 29 April is Showa Day, a public holiday, and the weekend follows. Bringing 15 schools from across the country into the site on that day adds a draw to a day that will already be crowded. Our advice in when to go is to avoid the holiday week; if you are going anyway, this is one more reason to be there.
The contest itself lasts five minutes. Teams are handed the flowers and finish within that. Most flower-arranging displays are finished works under glass; this is the making, which means passers-by can stop and watch without planning to. Aeon Retail and Aeon Mall as sponsors fits too: supermarket chains with flower counters.
Left open: whether watching needs a ticket or a booking, where on the site it happens, and what time it starts.

Our take
Few events during the run have a fixed date yet; this one does. 30 April 2027 is the Friday after Showa Day, in the middle of Japan's spring holiday week. The start time is still being set, and the location within the site was not given.
