Tokyo Skytree lights up in Tunku Tunku colours on 15 September, 9 December and opening day

Our take

On 15 September the lighting runs from 19:00 to midnight. Through trains on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line run from Minami-Machida Grandberry Park, an Expo shuttle-bus station, to Oshiage (Skytree-mae) without a change, so the Expo and the Skytree sit on one line.

  • Tokyo Skytree will be lit in green, blue, pink and yellow, the colours of the mascot Tunku Tunku, with the cooperation of Tobu Tower Skytree.
  • Dates: Tuesday 15 September 2026, 19:00 to 24:00 (about six months to opening); Wednesday 9 December 2026, 17:30 to 24:00 (100 days to opening); Friday 19 March 2027, 18:45 to 24:00 (opening day).
  • Laser mapping above the Tembo Deck will show the message “GREEN×EXPO 2027 YOKOHAMA JAPAN 2027.3.19-9.26” with the Japanese slogan.
  • The Association says it wants to raise interest at home and abroad ahead of the opening.

Our take

Through trains run from Minami-Machida Grandberry Park to Oshiage (Skytree-mae) without a change. Minami-Machida, one of the four Expo shuttle-bus stations, is on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, which continues onto the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line and then the Tobu Skytree Line; Oshiage is the station beneath the tower. The cooperating company, Tobu Tower Skytree, belongs to the same Tobu group, which makes sense of the whole arrangement.

Six months to go, 100 days to go, opening day: the three dates are countdown milestones. On opening day the lighting starts at 18:45, and the venue closes at 21:30, so spending the day at the Expo and then reaching the Skytree in time does not work. That evening’s lighting is for people already on the Tokyo side.

The laser-mapped message includes the Association’s Japanese slogan. It is projected on the upper part of the Tembo Deck, but the release does not say from where on the ground it can be seen.
