As of 9 September 2026, 15 countries from Asia have announced participation in GREEN×EXPO 2027, among them India, the Republic of Korea and Viet Nam. The figure is based on the lists published by the GREEN×EXPO Association (formally the 2027 International Horticultural Expo Association, a public interest incorporated association) and Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both cover the countries and international organisations that have announced participation in the 2027 International Horticultural Expo (GREEN×EXPO 2027). Three of the 15 have gone on to sign official participation contracts with the Association: India, Thailand and the Philippines.
Countries with a signed contract
Three Asian countries have so far announced signing an official participation contract with the GREEN×EXPO Association: Thailand on 15 October 2025, India on 6 April 2026 (the same day as Luxembourg), and the Philippines on 4 June 2026. Country-by-country status (15 countries in Asia)
1. India
India has announced participation, and on 6 April 2026 the GREEN×EXPO Association announced that it had signed an official participation contract with India (alongside Luxembourg on the same day). The exhibit is expected to draw on India’s philosophy of interconnection between all life, with elements of yoga, to present the country’s broad horticultural culture. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, India’s capital is New Delhi, its population is about 1.4509 billion (2024, World Bank), and its federal official language is Hindi, alongside 21 languages recognised by the constitution. 2. Indonesia
Indonesia has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Jakarta (population 10.67 million), its population is about 279 million (2023, Indonesian government statistics), and its official language is Indonesian.
3. Kyrgyz Republic
The Kyrgyz Republic has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Bishkek, its population is 7.3 million (2025, UNFPA), and Kyrgyz is the state language, with Russian also an official language.
4. Republic of Korea
The Republic of Korea has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Seoul, its population is about 51.77 million (2023, Statistics Korea), and its official language is Korean.
5. Tajikistan
Tajikistan has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Dushanbe, its population is 10.8 million (2025, UNFPA), and its official language is Tajik, with Russian also widely used.
6. Thailand
Thailand has announced participation, and on 15 October 2025 the GREEN×EXPO Association announced it had signed an official participation contract with Thailand. Its pavilion is expected to use taste, scent, sight and sound to introduce Thailand’s efforts toward a sustainable future, such as soil regeneration and community revitalisation. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand’s capital is Bangkok, its population is 66.05 million (2025), and its official language is Thai. 7. Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Ashgabat, its population is 7.6 million (2025, UNFPA), and its official language is Turkmen, with Russian also widely used.
8. Nepal
Nepal has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Kathmandu, its population is 29,651,054 (2024, World Bank), and its official language is Nepali, and the country has 124 language groups.
9. Timor-Leste
Timor-Leste has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Dili, its population is about 1.39 million (2023, Timor-Leste government statistics), and its official languages are Tetum and Portuguese.
10. The Philippines
The Philippines has announced participation, and on 4 June 2026 the GREEN×EXPO Association announced it had signed an official participation contract with the Philippines. Its exhibit theme is “Bukás: Gardens of the Bayanihan Spirit”. In Filipino, “bukás” means both “open” and “tomorrow”, and the word is meant to describe a country open to nature, innovation and cooperation. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Philippines’ capital is Manila, its population is 112,729,484 (2024, Philippine census), and its national language is Filipino, with Filipino and English as official languages. 11. Bhutan
Bhutan has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Thimphu, its population is about 786,000 (2023, World Bank), and its official language is Dzongkha.
12. Viet Nam
Viet Nam has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Hanoi, its population is about 100.3 million (2023, Vietnam General Statistics Office), and its official language is Vietnamese.
13. Malaysia
Malaysia has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Kuala Lumpur, its population is about 34.4 million (2026, Department of Statistics Malaysia), and its national language is Malay, and Chinese, Tamil and English are also used.
14. Mongolia
Mongolia has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Ulaanbaatar, its population is about 3.591 million (2025, Mongolian National Statistics Office), and its state official language is Mongolian.
15. Lao People’s Democratic Republic
Laos has announced participation, but at the time of writing no official participation contract or exhibit details have been confirmed. Per Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its capital is Vientiane, its population is 7.582 million (2023, Lao Statistics Bureau), and its official language is Lao.
Our take
The Asian line-up leans toward Southeast and South Asia. Visitors who saw Thailand’s and India’s pavilions at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai should enjoy comparing them with what the two countries show in Yokohama. Thailand is also due to host the next A1-class Horticultural Expo, in Korat in 2029, and its participation in Yokohama may partly be preparation for that. Twelve of the 15 countries, however, are still only at the announcement stage, and we don’t yet know what they will exhibit.
