Our take

Tunku Tunku comes on Saturday 31 October only, and the release gives no time or spot inside the park. The festival has a photo spot and bouquet-making with Fukuoka flowers. Fukuoka is one of the prefectures with a flower and green exhibit at the Expo.

What was announced

Source: Fukuoka Prefecture press release, 6 October 2026, on the 25th Fukuoka Prefecture Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Festival (PR TIMES, Japanese)

  • The organising committee, run from Fukuoka Prefecture’s horticulture promotion division, announced the 25th Fukuoka Prefecture Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Festival on 6 October 2026. The English name of the festival is our translation.
  • It runs on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November, 11:00 to 17:00, on the lawn of Tenjin Central Park in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka. Admission is free.
  • Tunku Tunku, the official mascot of GREEN×EXPO 2027, appears on Saturday 31 October. The release gives no time or location inside the park.
  • The flower programme has a photo spot made with Fukuoka-grown flowers and a bouquet-making activity in which a capsule-toy machine decides which flowers you get.
  • A talk with former footballer Hidetoshi Nakata is held at 14:30 on 31 October in ACROS Fukuoka, basement level 2. The 600 seats are allotted by lottery, and applications close on Monday 12 October. A cooking stage with former baseball player Nobuhiro Matsuda is on the same day.
  • There is also a touch pool with sea creatures, chopstick-making with local cypress, and a build-your-own udon stall.

Our take

The release mentions the Expo in one sentence: Tunku Tunku comes on 31 October. It gives no Expo dates and nothing about tickets. The festival is about Fukuoka’s food and flowers, and the mascot is listed among the flower activities.

We picked it up because of who is organising it. The festival is run from the prefecture’s horticulture division, and Fukuoka Prefecture is among the Kyushu exhibitors in the Expo’s flower and green programme. A prefecture that will send flowers to Yokohama is inviting the Expo mascot to its own flower event at home. We think the Fukuoka flowers on show in Tenjin are an early look at what that prefecture grows.

The choice of day is also clear. 31 October is the day of the Nakata talk and the Matsuda cooking stage, so the mascot is placed on the Saturday, when most of the programme is. On Sunday 1 November the photo spot and bouquet-making are still there, but Tunku Tunku is not.

Tips for visitors

  • To see Tunku Tunku, go to Tenjin Central Park between 11:00 and 17:00 on Saturday 31 October. The time is not in the release, so check the notices at the park on the day.
  • The Nakata talk is in a separate hall, ACROS Fukuoka basement level 2, and needs an application in advance. The deadline is Monday 12 October.
  • For who Tunku Tunku is, see our profile of the mascot.
